How to Order Custom Cable Assemblies

  1. Carefully Review: Read all of the cables, fittings, installation instructions and frame requirements & details pages in this Custom Cable Hardware section of our website.
  2. Select Cable: Decide which cable diameter and construction you'd like to use.
  3. Select Fittings: Select the type as well as the swage style (Machine or CableCrimp™) of the fittings you'd like to use. Please note that each assembly must include at least one Tension Adjustment Fitting.
  4. Section Your Frame: If you're using the cable assemblies on railings, divide your railing frame into sections by determining which corner and end posts will be the cable termination posts. Remember, to ensure proper tensioning, straight runs of cable (no turns, dips or rises) should include a Tension Adjustment Fitting at least every 50 feet. Runs with bends or corners should have a Tension Adjustment Fitting at least every 40 feet or after every second corner (whichever distance is shorter).
  5. Calculate Assembly Lengths: See individual fitting detail pages (example) for attachment drawings showing the "measure to" point. For each railing section from step 4, calculate the overall length of each cable assembly from the measure point on one end fitting to the measure point on the opposite end fitting. Confused? Give us a call, and we can help.
  6. Determine Quantities: Count the number of cables you'll need for each assembly length. If cables are being used for railing infill then each horizontal cable must be a separate assembly (no lacing back & forth), and the cables should never be spaced more than 3 inches apart.
  7. Check Accessories & Tools Count up all the nuts, bolts, screws, caps, washers, crimpers and cutters you'll need. See nuts & bolts and tools pages in the catalog or on our website.
  8. Place Your Order: On-line ordering is not currently available for custom cable assemblies, so please call us toll free at 1-800/888-2418 for assistance and order placing.  It normally takes 7 to 14 days for us to process and pack your order and then up to an additional 7 days for UPS ground shipping, so be sure to allow 2 to 3 weeks for final delivery. Special expedited processing and shipping options may be available for an additional charge; please ask our sales staff for details. Discounts are available to licensed contractors; confirm when you place your order.
